Bird hunt by James

We went outside on a bird hunt.
We saw fantails, waxeyes, pukekos, paradise ducks and a harrier hawk. These are NZ birds.

My favourite is the fantail as they follow me in the  garden. We have black and pied fantails.

We also saw chickens, budgies, Quaker parrots, quail, pigeons, ring neck doves, guinea fowl, sparrows and black birds.

  1. Kia Ora James,

you certainly have a lot of birds on your farm. I used to think fantails were sweet to follow us around, then I learned it was because we loosen the soil so it is easier for them to get worms and bugs. I think the kiwi is my favourite New Zealand bird, I once saw one on Stewart Island (Rakiura).

Did you find any of your birds on the website?

Yes we looked up some of the birds on the website to and listened to some of the bird sounds.

  3. Hi James,

Thanks for describing your bird hunt to us. I learned that there are two different types of piwakawaka (fantail), I never knew this! I like fantails too, we had one at our house the other day that was teasing the neighbours cat, it was flying a couple of metres off the ground and the cat was jumping up trying to catch it!

Which birds sound/call do you like best?
