Musician Reid shares his guitar!

This afternoon in Room 9 for sharing time, Reid bought in his guitar. Reid was able to teach us all about the strings, their names, and the different sounds they make. We were also lucky enough to have him play some songs he has been learning to us.

Here are some other facts we found out:

• When Reid played each cord the tune changed from high to light from the top to bottom cords. 
• That the sheets of music look hard to read. 
• He used the same 3 fingers to change cords. 
• 1, 2 and 3 numbers on the music sheet represented which finger to use. 
• There are six strings on the guitar.

Reid discovering the New Brighton War Memorial

As part of learning about ANZAC day we took a walk to the New Brighton War Memorial.
Reid said he thought it was a clock tower - but then he realised that there was no clock!
We discovered that this war memorial has place names on it. One of the places is Flanders. What a coincidence that our reading today was the poem "In Flanders Field".
We also noticed there is a flag pole nearby and we discussed how when we are remembering something sad, or the death of someone that flags are flown at half mast. We wonder if the flag will be able to fly at half mast this year?

ANZAC biscuits

Today Reid made ANZAC biscuits with Dad.
They were very tasty!
Reid and Dad discovered a error in the recipe. There was no temperature to set the oven to. Dad said, "Just put it at 180; cos that's always the temperature they say." And, he must have been right 'cos they turned out pretty good.

Reid is lucky to have a big sister to help with his reading.
Today Elliott and Reid are reading about ANZAC day.
Elliott is helping Reid to remember that a full stop means that he should stop and take a breath, rather than racing to begin the next word.
When Elliott helps Reid it means that Mum and Dad can get some work done at home.

Reid's Inquiry poster

Reid is working at the dining room table and creating a poster. During Inquiry this he has been learning about the ocean, specifically seaweed and pirates.

Reid's poster is about pirates. He's learnt so many facts about pirates that it was hard to decide which facts and sub-topics to include.
