In Room 8 we have been learning about being a programmer for Robots. We have been writing instructions such as F for forward 1 space, B for backwards 1 space, L for 1/4 left turn, R for 1/4 right turn and E for end.
We have had a lot of fun given instructions and learning about why it is important to be specific.
Here are some photos of students giving instructions to each other.
Kia ora and welcome to our blog. We are a wonderful group of Year 3/4 students at a small Catholic School near the beach in Ōtautahi, Christchurch. We have two great teachers called Miss Hart and Miss Esselink. We hope you enjoy reading all about our learning.

Room 8's cartoon strips
We are learning about the ascension of Jesus. After Jesus was resurrected he taught the disciples about God's kingdom, then after 40 days he ascended into Heaven to be with God.
Here are some comics that Room 8 students drew to explain what happened at the ascension of Jesus.

Room 9 Math Work
We have been exploring movement and direction concepts in the context of programming a robot to move. They have begun developing sets of instructions to accomplish tasks, focusing on the use of right, left, forward, backwards and quarter turns.
Today we worked in pairs using codes we have been learning to create a set of instructions for each other to explore by being the robot. We got to see in action the difference between movement and direction.
Pictured below is Mackenzie instructing robot Lucy to successfully end up at her chosen treasure point.

Room 9 Bubble Art
We focused on the idea of bubbles by talking about our own individual bubbles during being at home and then combining them to make our class bubble through art. We focused on the transparency and form of light through bubbles by talking about the colour/light changes that happen to form rainbow colour effects. Joseph even had a rainbow reflection appear on his desk during our discussion wow!
After creating our own masterpieces we then individually added them to a class display to represent our class coming together.
Well done Room 9, you all had a fantastic first day back.
